Our Missionary Committee

The Missionary Committee is responsible for distributing funds received from the Church Budget to support local communities as well as provide support directly to national and worldwide disasters.

Our local charities include the Salvation Army and the Springfield Rescue Mission.  We also support the Springfield Council of Churches, where money goes to the Emergency Fuel Fund, along with the West Springfield Parish Cupboard to help feed those less fortunate.  We provide packets of necessities for distribution to the homeless at Christmas time and we also collect items for the Mitten Tree.  Locally, we gave to the Annual Thanksgiving Dinner in West Springfield and the Agawam Fuel Fund to help those right here in town.

Each year we host “Undie Sunday,” where we collect needed necessities for men, women and children of the Springfield Rescue Mission.

Worldwide, we collect money for such projects as One Great Hour of Sharing and the Blanket Fund, where the money collected is used to help provide blankets and needed necessities around the world.  We also support the missionary work of the Weatherly’s, who are doing God’s work in North and South Central Asia.   This year we sent a donation through the United Church of Christ to Japan, after the deadly earthquake.

Our church sponsors the Loaves and Fishes project under the supervision of the Missionary Committee.  We have volunteers who transport and serve food at Christ Church Cathedral in Springfield.

We provide coleslaw and American chop suey for this monthly event.  The cost of the food purchased comes from our share of the coffee hour money during the months of January, April, July, and October.   Any food items donated by our members are also taken to Parish Cupboard.
